Mount Nelson Hotel, Cape Town’s most iconic luxury hotel, has outshone its competitors by winning one of the worlds most sought after travel accolades. The hotel was voted ‘Africa’s Leading Hotel’ at the World Travel Awards Africa Gala Ceremony 2009, a glittering gala ceremony held in Durban this week (to coincide with Indaba, South Africa’s largest annual travel and tourism expo).

The purpose of the World Travel Awards Africa event is to acknowledge, honour and promote organisations who have made the greatest contributions and innovations to tourism and travel throughout Africa, and the highpoint of the event culminated is always the announcement of the winner of the ‘Leading Hotel in Africa’ award.

Now in its 16th year, the World Travel Awards is often referred to as ‘the travel industry’s Oscar’s’. 165 000 travel agents and travel industry professionals from over 200 countries cast their votes online, making this the largest travel industry award of its kind.
