Human Resource InitiativesHIV/AIDS is prevalent in our society, reaching epidemic proportions. This naturally impacts the well being and productivity of staff. As such, the Mount Nelson Hotel has implemented its own successful policy to manage and reduce the impact and effects of HIV/AIDS in the workplace. It is the hotel’s intention to ensure that any staff member infected with HIV/AIDS will not be discriminated against in terms of the company’s employment policies and practices and that they are supported in such a way as to enable them to continue work productively for as long as they are medically fit to do so. We are also committed to the creation of a safe working environment and our awareness programme is structured to inspire our staff to change their lifestyles based on the desire to live rather than out of motivation derived from fear. The programme incorporates the following initiatives: | |

Over and above this initiative, the Mount Nelson Hotel also: Provides ongoing training in first aid and occupational health and safety initiatives We offer a challenging four year practical in-service training programme to previously disadvantaged candidates wishing to pursue a career in the hotel industry. Each year the programme is offered to 3 Chef and 4 Hotel Management candidates who are given the opportunity to obtain a formal qualification in their respective fields as well as gain hands-on experience working in various departments of the hotel. We reward our staff through the “You Make The Difference Staff Recognition Programme”. This has especially been designed to encourage staff to recognize and acknowledge achievement of their peers’ daily work efforts through extraordinary commitment to the hotel’s standards, exceptional customer service, performance of duties above and beyond service etc. Employees are financially rewarded and at the end of the year, the 12 monthly winners are nominated for the “Employee of the Year” award, entitling them to a large cash prize and an overseas trip to an Orient Express destination.
