Eating Green on Mount Nelson’s Planet
Eating at Planet Restaurant is now greener - and tastier - than ever before. Acclaimed Chef Rudi Liebenberg sources increasing amounts of his produce from the fertile fields of South Africa’s wine paradise, Stellenbosch, and has recently set up an organic and sustainable vegetable farm in the area.
Rudi adds: ‘Breads and pastries are baked in the hotel’s kitchens; pickles, sauces and tapenades are all made on site.” Herbs grow wildly on the hotel’s sunny rooftops, ready to accompany free range guinea fowl and grass-fed lamb.
Coming weeks will see the arrival of fresh beetroot, carrots, Chinese cabbage, cauliflower, beans, peas and chard. So is the chef a vegetarian? ’Ha! I am an African man,” he says. “We love our meat.”

Mount Nelson Hotel’s New General Manager Discovers Cape Town
12 September 2011 - Mr Xavier Lablaude recently arrived in Cape Town and here is what he has to say about it: ‘I love the area around the Mount Nelson. Kloof and Long Streets are always abuzz, full of locally owned shops, restaurants and art galleries. My wife and daughters have already found some lovely boutiques and it is so very convenient to have a movie theatre next door which offers an excellent independent film programme.
'I love living in a wine region. It has been very exciting to discover the wines of South Africa. I left many winegrowing friends in my native France and I hope to meet many new ones in this beautiful country.’ |
